BEIJING beijing BEIJING

I have been avoiding this blog as much as possible, but since we got home a whole week ago I decided it's time to start eating this elephant... one painstaking bite at a time.
It's not that the trip was bad to any extent, but it was so jam packed full that even writing it all down in my journal was a large task to undertake. It just means that I am going to have to attack this one in its own special way. I have decided to give you an itinerary of each day with highlights of each event. This way I don't leave anything out and I don't feel overwhelmed by retelling the events.
So here we go....
Day One- Friday May 1st
7:30-11:30 Teach
11:45 Catch the bus
1:00 Catch the bus to Guangzhou
4:00 Catch the Train to Beijing

This was a busy day starting out with making sure we had everything packed and with us before we went to teach. We were lucky and caught all the right buses and made it safely to our train. This was the first train I had ever been on, and was a nice and clean sleeper train with each room having six bunks it them. We had heard horror stories about trains in other countries but were pleased when we got on this one.

Debbie, Me, and Andrea they had the two bunks right above mine.

It was to be our home for the next 15 hours, and I made friends with Leo, the sweet older lady who was my bunkmate. We met alot of people on the train who were headed to Beijing for so many reasons. Leo was headed to see her daughter, and told us that 10 days in Beijing was not enough time to see all of it's beauties (tell me about it Leo!)

We also made friends with a Chinese band who were a couple cabins down from us. They were headed to the biggest rock concert China holds in Beijing. They gave us all the info to go, but we ended up not being able to make it. This sleeper train has now been my favorite way of transportation in China.
