The school's gymnastics group
Since we are the international teachers they had us perform. One of the boys in my group put together all the parts for a Maroon 5 song called "This Love." He, Joey, was on lead guitar, with Tanner on bass. Shaw plays drums for a band back home, so of course he was our drummer. Then the last boy, Ryan was going to be on the piano, but ended up not participating in the end. This left the piano for Andrea and as backup singers: Tiffany, Raven, Erin, and me. With Debbie and Anna playing the tambourines.
Our first day practicing we went into town to practice at a guys music studio. He was a pretty nice guy and really accommodating, at the end of the day he even drove us all home in his car. I have found here that most people want to be friends with the Americans and help us in anyway they can. But... he did keep on saying how he wants an American girlfriend, even though he is an old married man... creeper. Anyway, during this practice Joey decided that it was too hard to sing and play so he was going to have Andrea and I sing, but then Andrea ended up playing piano.... which means I ended up with the singing part.
At first I was really nervous, considering the last time I did a solo in front of an audience I sang the wrong line. Ya... I didn't tell anyone that part. I just practiced really hard to get all the words memorized and to sing the best I could. I know I don't have an AMAZING voice, so I realized how lucky I am that I would have this opportunity. Especially considering when else would I be able to sing in front of 500 people, without them being able to tell if I messed up on the words?

Waiting to go on stage

When the big day came- Monday April 19 at 2:30 in the afternoon- we were the first ones on the program. We had gone on a shopping spree the weekend before and bought our Chinese attire, and after decking out rockstar style we were "ready" to perform.

Andrea and me
There were about ten judges that sat right up front and then most of the older students from the school and any parents who had children performing. I'm glad to say I remembered all the words, with only a small slip at one of the chorus. I wasn't expecting for the American girls down the street to come, so that was nerve racking when I got on stage and saw them standing out there. It wasn't even that they knew the song, but that one of them has her own cd out and another one is in the fancy pants choir at BYU. It was amazing to me how fast the song was over, after all the prep we put into it. (Kinda like this blog- such a big event yet the actually telling is not that big of a deal)

The performance -I'm in the pink- my shirt says "Global Love"
Everyone told us we did a good job, and we all had alot of fun- and that's what really counts right?
