CHUCH IN CHINA

Debbie, one of my roommates, was called to be the relief society group leader person, for our group that will be holding church out here in Zhongshan. So Andrea, Debbie, and I went to Shenzhen last Sunday to the branch to get her set apart. It was about a three hour trip there, and we left here at six in the morning. Church was at ten, and we made it 15 minutes before it was to start. Satan was trying really hard to prevent us from getting there. When the girls went to buy the tickets the bus broke down on the way home, and then when we were headed to church our taxi got a flat tire.

Not only that, but it had been hot all week, and the first day that we get up before the sun it is an awful cold day. We didn't bring jackets with us, and I was wearing sandals in the rain. Other than that it was a wonderful day. The church is held in a home that the church bought. There were about fifty people there, and when you walk in the door you take off your shoes. My first meeting without anything on my feet. It is so nice to know that no matter where you go the church is true. It was fast Sunday so to hear from the members here was really nice. The people here have so much hope for the future of the church here in China. Right now there is no proselyting, and if we are asked about our religion we are told to not say anything. The Chinese government will ship us out for any kind of that stuff. So the members just go on in their lives waiting for the day when the doors will be open for their friends and neighbors here to know the truth. It is so weird for me to walk down the street and think that none of these people know anything about what life is really about. Everyday I realize how blessed I am to be born into the church, in the land of the free.
